David is an edible weed forager and runs tours in Brisbane. I joined one of his tours and found some interesting facts about the plants that pop up in sidewalk cracks.

In the second half of the show I will play an interview with fungal ecologist Dr Sapphire McMullan-Fisher. Dr McMullan-Fisher is a mycologist that is in the process of researching and writing a book exposing the elusive world of native mycelium and specifically the reciprocal nature that fungi has with the native plants in our bushland.

Dr Youngentop is the team leader of the Gourmet Gumleaves Project, The Gourmet Gumleaves Project is a culmination of decades of research in understanding what makes better nutritional quality for Koalas and Greater Gliders. The study compares plant animal interactions and the chemical determinants indicating if animals can eat more of some leaves and less of others and whether they can selectively breed or take seeds from parent trees that are a good quality of food. So why is the cultivation of these trees so important in preventing the extinction of Koala’s and the Greater Gliders in South East Queensland?

We also speak about the March for Palestine that occurred over the weekend and how the police tend to underplay the number of protesters at the event.

Last week on the program we spoke about Ormiston College and its planned expansion that would involve the removal of habitat that has been labelled as a koala priority area by the Redland City Council.
