Today I have a conversation with Peter Illetschko.

Peter recently completed his book, "Cycle of Life" which documents his year long bicycle trip alongside his Capoeira martial arts crew from Berkely, California to Brazil (B2B).

The book is part memoir, part travel story, part comedic satire, and part social critique. In addition, it offers an insightful view into Capoeira's cultural richness and transformational power.

As we discuss in the show, Peter sees travel as a means of expanding intellectually, socially, and spiritually.

He's a man who's lived from a number of perspectives, and through our meandering tangents, I believe there is some value to be gained and utilized in our own lives.

First of all, sorry I pause a lot in this... sorta comes with the territory on a retreat.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think we all undergo far more self-doubt than any of us realize. We need voices of support in our lives, people who see us for who we are beyond the limits we place in front of us.

We ALWAYS hold ourselves back more than anyone else. When there is a lack of conviction, faith in yourself becomes the refuge.

🤼‍♂️What does it mean to be a man? It's a big question, and I doubt I have a full answer, but I feel that at least in American culture, we've developed a very narrow view of what masculinity is and can be, and that it's defined by the insecurities we've been conditioned to care about. ⁣ ⁣ When I look at this country, and much of the world, I see a lack of intimacy between men and within themselves.⁣ ⁣ We often put up barriers, aggression, and silence towards anything that may confront the challenging part of ourselves; especially when it has to do with the closest relationships in our lives. ⁣ ⁣ It's a really tiring game, and though I believe we should have compassion and understanding for why so many of us do what we do, we also need to, and have the opportunity to, grow through it. ⁣ ⁣ Last night I went to my first Men's Circle.
