Dr. Ilana Yurkiewicz, a physician at Stanford, shares how her residency experiences in primary care led her to pursue a career specializing in the care of cancer survivors. Dr. Yurkiewicz recalls a particular patient's story which inspired her and stuck with her, fueling a desire to help survivors overcome the obstacles that make their goals of returning to normalcy after treatment seem out of reach. She and our hosts also discuss empowerment and how a physician can help their patient develop confidence when navigating healthcare after treatment.

In this episode Dr. Lauren Heathcote speaks with Lidia, Steph, Natasha, and Elle about pain, fear of recurrence, fatigue, and scanxiety and how these symptoms differ for childhood and adult cancer survivors. Steph, Lauren, and Lidia discuss barriers patients face in sharing their symptoms of pain and fatigue with clinicians. Lauren gives tips on how clinicians can better prepare survivors to monitor and manage their symptoms. Lauren also provides tips for survivors dealing with fear and anxiety. The group reflects on the challenges electronic health apps and electronic medical records pose for survivors that face scanxiety. To conclude, Lauren shares her future research aims.

In this episode Ben Barcklay chats with Elle and Natasha about what it was like being diagnosed with cancer as child and then again as a young adult. We hear Ben, Elle, and Natasha reflect on the differences between childhood cancer and young adult cancer. Dawn Billman is the mom of Elle Billman, a childhood cancer survivor and one of the hosts of this podcast. Paula Rauch, MD, is the Founding Director of the Marjorie E. Korff Parenting At a Challenging Time (PACT) program. Hil is the Co-Founder and CEO of VivorCare, the first virtual survivorship clinic for survivors of critical illness, starting with cancer.
