The Real Reason Your Relationships Aren’t Working

This conversation with Christian (Quality Relationships) goes past the generic relationship advice and into the uncomfortable stuff:

\> Why “love yourself first" is annoyingly... the answer and how to do that.

\> The loyalty myth

\> Why strong, intelligent people still choose partners they’d never recommend to their friends

\> How unmet needs quietly run your life

\> Why cheating is rarely random

Here’s the part you won’t like:

Life has a way of sending you the people you need until you learn to love that behaviour, so it’s probably not just “douchebags.”

You’re participating in the dynamic.

That doesn’t make you unlovable or worthless.

It makes you responsible.

If you’re ready to stop looping the same story in a different body, this episode is your starting point.

And if it stings a little? Sorry, not sorry.

That’s where a Quality Relationship begins.

In this short, solo episode I unpack one of my favourite quotes by Anaïs Nin — a line that has stuck with me since the first time I heard it and has continued to evolve with me ever since.

“We don’t see the world as it is. We see the world as we are.”

We talk about how this actually shows up in real life — the days when everything and everyone feels irritating, versus the days where nothing seems to touch you. Why the same situation can feel wildly different depending on what’s happening inside you, and how your beliefs, moods, memories and blind spots quietly filter your entire experience of the world.

This isn’t about blame or pretending life is always fine. It’s about noticing what keeps repeating, what’s triggering you, and asking better questions instead of outsourcing responsibility to the moon, other people, or bad timing.

A gentle but uncomfortable invitation to look at your filters — and what they might be asking you to pay attention to.

This conversation is for two kinds of people:

The ones who love a little woo-woo deep dive but quietly use it to avoid reality aaaand the ones who don’t believe in any of it — astrology, energy, manifestation — and honestly just think it’s all a bit much.

In this episode, I’m joined by Linda Willow Roberts for a grounded, practical conversation about how tools like astrology, Human Design, Lunar cycles and energy work are meant to be used — not as answers, not as excuses, and not as something to outsource your thinking to.

We use the lead-up to Lunar New Year and the Fire Horse year as a real example of this:

how collective narratives, energetic cycles, and “this is what this year means” language can either become insight… or a very neat way to avoid taking responsibility for your own choices.

We talk about:

Why “the universe” isn’t responsible for your decisions

When spiritual modalities become bypasses instead of mirrors

How scepticism can actually be an asset, not a limitation

Using systems as reference points, not rulebooks

Integrity, self-analysis, and personal responsibility as the real work

Why insight without action changes nothing

Living deliberately instead of reacting — whether you believe in energy or not

This isn’t about believing harder.

Just a conversation about how humans use frameworks — spiritual or otherwise — to understand themselves better, make cleaner decisions, and stop repeating the same patterns under different labels.

2026: The Year of the Villain

Let’s get one thing straight: this is not about being a dickhead.

It’s about being done contorting yourself to keep everyone else comfortable.

In this episode, Mel introduces 2026: The Year of the Villain and the five commandments that will probably offend your inner people-pleaser and quietly liberate the part of you that’s been exhausted from over-explaining, over-analysing and over-managing everyone else’s feelings.

At some point in your life, you will be the villain in someone else’s story.

Not because you’re cruel.

But because you chose yourself.

We unpack:

Why you can’t control how people see or receive you (no matter how “nice” you are)

Why analysing, understanding, and labelling doesn’t actually change the situation

How anticipating other people’s reactions disconnects you from your own direction

The difference between being a villain and being a dickhead (important)

And why the villain isn’t a punishment, it’s feedback

This episode is for those who are tired of ducking, weaving, scripting conversations in their head, and shrinking their truth to keep the peace.

Because villains don’t destroy stories.

They shape the hero.

At some point, the work, the identity or the path we’ve invested everything into stops feeling true. That’s the moment we whisper, “this isn’t it.”

For Dr. Olivier, that moment came after a lifetime in science, from a microscope at eight years old to a PhD in molecular genetics until the lab no longer gave him meaning. In this conversation, we explore what happens when you leave convenience behind to follow curiosity into the unknown.

We go deep. We talk about the bridge between science and spirituality, the gaps that shape our deepest values and how documenting your life becomes the ultimate act of self-leadership. This isn’t just a story of leaving a career; it’s about the courage to be honest with yourself, to own every side of who you are, and to choose the life that finally feels like it.

At ten years old, Shil Shanghavi was punched in the face because he couldn’t say his own name. That moment could have silenced him forever but instead, it sparked a lifelong journey in finding his voice.

In this episode of This Isn’t It, I sit down with strength coach and podcast host Amy Bowe to talk about why women stay stuck despite doing “all the right things.”

Amy shares why effort isn’t the issue — “women are strong, they’re capable, they’ve built amazing careers and families… but their physiology isn’t strong enough to hold the vision.”

We dive into what she calls an elegant strategy — “simple, efficient and effective” — built on four essentials: energy, systems, time, and a table of support.

⚠️ Trigger warning: we talk about suicidal thoughts in this episode.

This conversation with emotional intelligence coach Narita Bint goes deep into the messy middle between knowing “this isn’t it” and actually creating the life you want.

She shares her story of battling depression and suicidal ideation while on the surface had a successful business and relationship.. and how learning to sit with her emotions changed everything.

We talk about why so many women still feel stuck in business and their relationships even when they’re doing all the “right” things, the five emotions that quietly run the show, and why receiving — in relationships, money, or success — is one of the hardest (but most powerful) skills to learn.

If you’ve been pushing through, building, achieving, but still wondering why it doesn’t feel the way you thought it would… this one’s for you.

We're chatting to Jack Nesbitt, a strength and health coach, about his journey and approach to health, wellness + weight-loss.

Jack + I have one biga** common belief; that integration of hobbies and values into a healthy lifestyle is vital for long term success. Jack has a rad background that eventually led him to being the coach he is today; he trained as a chef, has a love for golf + gaming but realised a pretty common theme.

The conversation evolves into the importance of focusing on the big picture + not getting caught up in the small details when it comes to successfully getting what you want out of your body, whether it's weightloss, muscle gain, injury rehabilitation, etc.

A little nugget that we dove into was the importance of challenging yourself + choosing growth over stagnation. In this part of the conversation, we discuss how to handle pain, injury, + life events that can derail progress in strength training.

We welcome host of the Weight Loss for Women podcast, Kitty Blomfield, about her journey in the health and wellness industry. They discuss topics such as the importance of honoring and understanding one's body, the challenges of restrictive diets, and the impact of stress on women's health. Kitty shares her own experiences with dieting and extreme exercise, as well as her sister's journey through perimenopause and breast cancer. They also touch on the importance of emotional resilience and self-care in achieving overall well-being. In this conversation, Mel and Kitty discuss their struggles with feeling like they're not enough and worrying about what others think of them. They also talk about finding the balance between self-acceptance and wanting to improve their bodies. They emphasize the importance of taking consistent, imperfect action and not getting caught up in restrictive diets or extreme exercise regimens.

Let's talk about the overwhelming amount of burnout women experience, especially in women who have something genuine to offer their world.

Burn out looks different for us all. Many of us find it difficult to embrace who we are, our point of difference and the niggling feelings that there could be another way to do things.

In this episode I chat with Sam from Soulful Business Leadership about her personal experience with burnout and how it led her to transform her relationship with herself, her career and her relationships.

By her [very] early 20's, Sam had climbed the corporate ladder where she was head of the state and presenting at national conferences but the premature birth of her daughter forced her to make some radical changes to how she was doing things.

The issue was though, how do you change something you're so passionate about, obviously good at but know you can't sustain?

Join us for a chat about the importance of self-leadership, high performance and energetic mastery in achieving sustainable success.

While this episode covers a lot of theory and mindset, it was a vital part of the brief that we uncovered practical tools you could take away and implement.

Sam + I both love the woo-woo but it means nothing without practical strategy + outcomes.

Within perfectionism we also discussed the guilt + shame we carry when we show up the way we think we’re meant to.

As a woman. As a parent. As a business owner. As someone on a journey of self discovery.

If you haven’t had Justin in your ears before - he has a way with words that leaves you feeling seen, heard + curious.

Enjoy x

[You can also hear Justin on E17 “Fuck off, that’s bullshit”.]

Language plays such an integral role in our experience as a fkn human being.

We have goals to do better, be better, achieve more..

Yet if you're anything like me, you'll find yourself in a constant inner battle with yourself + hitting play on another mindless show on netflix.

Dave has a way with his words.

It might be the 700+ podcast's he's hit record on,

or the countless hours spent studying/ understanding human experience.

But his words invite us to hear the language + words we use on our experience [and ourselves] as a form of understanding, growth + learning.

It's almost shorter to write a summary of the things we DIDN'T touch on in this episode..

But here's a brief overview:

Taking control of your situation

Authenticity in a person + finding our maps

Health for the individual versus health standards.

Chasing solutions for the symptom avoids the problem

The truth in people pissing us off + our relationships

Anxiety

Cold therapy

So, so, much more.

[Or goosebump moments as we like to call them on the inside].

You know those real "Ooohhh" lightbulb moments? That change the course of your thinking?

These are the moments Tanya + her community strive for.

It wasn't until the tragic death of her boyfriend that Tanya really got to experience the deep gratitude + this divine way of seeing the world..

Which might sounds kinda morbid at first glance.. but this episode + Tanya's mission is one to plug into with curious ears.

Uncovering a life of service

True definition of personal values + how to identify them (in glorious discomfort)

How the challenge we're experiencing is actually servicing us

Developing a solutions based mindset can be super tricky when you feel like you have no way out or feel like you are constantly being knocked down.

This chat came about because Ang has one of most infection solutions based mindsets I've ever come across and I wanted to dig deep on her secrets, however I came to discover that hasn't always been the case!

Ang is a copywriter, Mum, wife, + lover of all things bright...

Who came to a bit of a fork in the road when she hit 40.

In this episode we uncover:

Her journey from international diplomat to self-employed copywriting

Pealing back the layers on her diplomat persona

Recognising when we are waiting for permission from something other than ourselves

Looking for the signs that your future is unfolding

Being in charge of your own life and its outcomes.

I hope you love this episode as much as I did!

PS sorry for the average audio quality, my training wheels are very much still on!
