SR Ep. 16: The 4:30 Movie

It’s another prior season catch up as Kevin Smith releases possibly his most personal film yet, ‘The 4:30 Movie’! Smith leads a cavalcade of returning stars as he tells a slightly fictionalized story of how Smith came to be the director he is today, with a heartwarming story of young love. With Jay. Joins The Lady Wan and Chris Scalzo as they return to season 1 of ScreenRun that was all things, and all (mostly) love of Kevin Smith!

On this episode of ScreenRun, The Lady Wan and Chris Scalzo, are joined by returning champion Joe Buttice of Reel Spoilers. More accurately, he broke into the studio and demanded to talk about ‘Escape From LA’. After his visit to discuss ‘Escape From New York, The Lady Wan and Chris Scalzo decide it’s best to just let it ride. It’s usually best to not get on Joe “Snake” Buttice’s bad side…. How does Carpenter’s first true sequel playout? Does Russell still have what it takes for a second go-round with one of his favorite characters? And what’s up with that surfing scene. All that and more on a groovy new episode of ScreenRun. So hang loose moon-doggie!

Sure. But Carpenter and crew define the genre and establish the template that would influence filmmakers and horror fans forever. After all this time though, could all that talk just be hyperbole? (Come on, no. But it’s a hell of a lot of fun to revisit and discuss this horror classic!)

It’s up to the remaining staff and a cast of criminals stuck overnight after their transportation broke down during their transfer to a new prison. Can our heroes, of them reluctant, survive the ‘Assault On Precinct 13’?!? With Carpenter fully in control of the reigns with a little bit of cash deliver the promise shown in ‘Dark Star’?

ScreenRun Bonus: The First Run w/The Lady Wan

Hey there ScreenRun fans! Chris Scalzo here. So, funny story. I messed up the editing of this week’s episode, so unfortunately, we’re going to be delayed a week. To help ease the pain and make sure you get your Lady Wan fix, I’ve uploaded her guest appearance on my other show, The First Run. Wan joined me to discuss ‘In The Heights’ and ‘The Lady In The Window’. We also did a Top 5 focusing on films that could be improved by being a musical. So enjoy this brief apologetic interlude and we’ll see you next week! As always complaints and commendations can be sent to screenrunfun@gmail.com.

Season 2 comes to a close with ‘Creature’ from 1985. Not an ‘Alien’ film for sure, but it certainly borrows a bit from the original classic. But does it deserve a reputation as a “cheap knockoff”? Or is there some magic up there in them hills? Or in this case, them there moons of Jupiter? Then your erstwhile hosts, The Lady Wan and Chris Scalzo wrap things up by revisiting their rankings, choosing a final best film of the franchise, and deciding who gave the best overall performance.

SR Ep. 10: Red State

This week on ScreenRun, The Lady-Wan and Chris Scalzo continue their adventures through the works of Kevin Smith with ‘Red State’. This time, Smith spins a tale of horror centered around a cult that has taken hostages and are preparing for the end times. John Goodman plays the FBI agent tasked with negotiating with the cult, while madness descends around them all. Or does it? Does Smith’s first foray into the horror genre deliver the scares the concept promises? Is this a sign of things to come? And is that a good thing?

PS. Check out the original Red State ending via the magic of animation!

SR Ep. 4: Dogma

This week on ScreenRun, with such a potentially heavy subject matter rife with d!ck jokes, The Lady Wan and Chris Scalzo may want to consult their favorite religious texts. That’s right, our journey through the works of Kevin Smith continues with ‘Dogma’. Jay and Silent Bob are joined by a motley cast of ruffians, featuring the Voice of God, the Lost Apostle, a couple muses, and a sh!t demon. Can Smith’s attempt to mine his deeply held religious beliefs for raunchy humor possibly payoff with big laughs and just a dusting of protest?

ScreenRun Ep. 3: Chasing Amy

This week on ScreenRun, The Lady Wan and Chris Scalzo decided to draw up plans to discuss Kevin Smith’s ‘Chasing Amy’. At one point in his life, ‘Chasing Amy’ was Chris’ favorite film. No, seriously. All will be explained. But could it reclaim its crown upon our re-watch? Calm down, no. The director’s first foray into more adult-themed fare. How does Smith equate himself by tackling one of the more daring love triangles of its time? Our journey through the works of Kevin Smith continues…

SR Ep. 2: Mallrats

This week on ScreenRun, The Lady Wan and Chris decide to check out THE place to hang in the 90’s, the mall. That’s right! Our journey through the works of Kevin Smith continues with ‘Mallrats’. Smith’s follow up to ‘Clerks’ was considered a disappointment by critics, its box office returns, and Chris as well. But The Lady Wan has found memories of Brody, TS, Brandi, Rene, and the rest of the gang. Even the guy that likes to do it in uncomfortable places. So it’s been years. Could attitudes have changed on either, or both, ends? Is ‘Mallrats’ a cult classic after all? It is the birth of “snootchie bootchies”, so it’s got that going for it, which is nice. So light ‘em up, take your comics out of their secure plastic bags, and settle in for the second episode of ScreenRun.
