Welcome to this two part Special Edition of The Garbage POD.

Something is happening that is ripping the heart out of communitiesacross the UK, as we speak.

Bauer Media have acquired 56 "Local" radio stations and is going to re-brand them as part of their Greatest Hits Radio "National" radio station.

This means the identity of these stations will cease to exist by the end of the year.

This also means job losses across the country, loss of local programming, No connection with local presenters and Local Charities, Business and events left without a voice.

Ofcom (the regulating body for the broadcasting industry) has failed to inform the public of the takeover. Leaving no chance of any resistance to the changes, until it was too late.

Campaigns have been set up across the country but because of the Covid-19 Pandemic, they have not been able to gain momentum and make an impact.

In Part 2 of the Podcast we focus on the Community aspect of Local Radio.
Where we talk to local events organisers, Bands, Business's and people who have been involved with fundraising for charities and will be affected by the loss of local radio.

In part 1 of the podcast we focus on one of the stations being affected by the takeover, 'Aylesbury's Mix 96'

We talk to a former Mix 96 Presenter, The founder of the Save Mix 96 Campaign and The Leader of Aylesbury Town Council.

We also hear from the Mayor of Aylesbury and the Member of Parliament for Aylesbury.

UK Astronomy's Ross Hockham will be telling us about the possible origin of The Star Of Bethlehem.

Mark Taylor and Liz Springs will be chatting with people involved with the Star Wars Movies at Feel The Force Day XL.

John Berger and Eddie Spangles will be coming on board for some Festive Fun and Games.

We will be inducting a new Member to the Honoary Crew Members Wall.

Over the years, we have recorded some amazing content during our time on the original Garbage pod Podcast. The majority of our listeners, since we moved over to our new podcast host probably haven’t had the opportunity to hear these episodes, so we have decided to re-package some of our favourite episodes and give them an airing.

Hopefully listeners who moved over from our old RSS feed will enjoy listening back to our escapades too.
