Michael Jibson is one of Britain's finest actors. He has won two Olivier Awards for memorable West End performances and he regularly appears on our stages and screens in acclaimed shows, programmes and films. His experience working on the hit musical Hamilton has inspired hime to team up with producer and director Andrew Pearson and establish HEYACT – and arts trust which will support the next generation of performers on their journey into training and beyond.

Matt also talks to Ben Lancaster, Director of Performing Arts at St. Mary's College in Hull, and Year 13 student Hannah, about the decisions young people face when they are considering training for a career in the performing arts.

Carl Wheatley has appeared in every slot in the Radio Humberside schedule and is one of the region's most well-known voices. But after a quarter of a century in his dream job he got the chance to start another one. As chief executive of NAPA (Northern Academy of Performing Arts) he wants to clear the path for Hull's youngsters to pursue their own dreams, whether it's performing for fun with their friends, or maybe making it their job.

Freedom Festival is in its 12th year, and Mikey Martins has been at the helm since 2016. It is a fixture of Hull's (and the international) cultural calendar and thrills and surprises 130,000 citizens and visitors each summer with world-class art and performance.

But the world is changing and the festival has to change too, whilst retaining the soul of what began in 2007 – commemorating Wilberforce, and celebrating Hull’s independent spirit and historic contribution to the cause of freedom. Like some of the shows, it’s a careful balancing act, and Mikey tells us how him and his team try to achieve it.

Maureen Lennon is the writer of Middle Child Theatre's latest, and largest-scale show yet. Quite a task, but she's up to it. Maureen co-founded Bellow Theatre after graduating from university, and draws on folk and legend to tell the tales of the silenced in unexpected stages. Her writing is as intimate and moving as it is funny and alive.
