His commitment, resilience, work ethic and unwavering focus landed him a spot in one of India's prestigious "Indian Institutes of Technology", which have an entrance rate of 0.01% (less than 2% of accepted applicants*) . The Indian Institutes of Technology, which are spread across the country, have an acceptance rate of less than 2 percent — and that is only from a pool of roughly 500,000 who qualify to take the entrance exam, a feat that requires two years of specialized coaching after school. The acceptance rate of 5.8% at Harvard is amongst the lowest in the US which ironically makes it 8 times easier to get into than the IITs.

Mr. Sean O'Gorman gave a wonderful interview and delivered all there is to know about the spoken word and slam poetry scenes both in Canada and in Korea. Sean is not only a spoken word aficionado but also the literary editor for Angle Magazine and an event organizer. Sean spoke about working with the LGBT community to keep the Ulsan Pride Celebration going another year after a friend who had started it moved from Ulsan.

He has integrated well in the foreign community here, he is now helping run the Ulsan Foreigners Market and he is also the top chef at JJ’s bar where he cooks up some of the best burgers in town. Tony sheds light on his life in England, the transition to Korea and what keeps him from moving back. On Episode 1 of This Korean Life we had Rogelio Garcia join us. Roy, a Californian native is married with a 2 year old daughter and has spent the last 5 years in Korea. He is a public school teacher, and in his free time plays goalie for the local ice hockey team “the Pirates” and volunteers his time with a local NGO called We HOPE as a Program Coordinator. We caught up with him just before wrapping up his final contract and heading out on a extended global adventure with his family until August when they will settle in Kuala Lumpur to begin their new journey. Roy will be teaching at an international school there.
