00:00.170 --> 00:00.474
Corny.

00:00.522 --> 00:01.280
I know.

00:20.930 --> 00:28.018
Hello and welcome to our week there yet in exploration and education anime. I'm your anime idiot, patrick Dugan.

00:28.114 --> 00:30.674
I'm an anime expert, D hollander.

00:30.802 --> 00:40.860
And I'm brenna mccullough, your beloved anime host. The only anime host you need. All other anime hosts are trying to steal you from me. Don't learn.

00:42.510 --> 00:47.180
I feel targeted in that particular one.

00:49.810 --> 00:51.710
You're both wrong, okay?

00:51.780 --> 00:53.200
Our feelings are wrong.

00:54.290 --> 00:57.680
You're not targeted or safe. That's the confusing part.

01:00.690 --> 01:04.098
Is this what gasolating is? I don't fully understand. I don't know.

01:04.184 --> 01:08.514
Neither do I. It's also gasoline. I know what it is.

01:08.632 --> 01:22.486
Oh, boy. What do we have going on? The meta of this particular podcast episode? We're talking about what show?

01:22.668 --> 01:40.730
I can tell you. This week we are watching Future Diary, which does have a pretty popular Yonderey character. I don't know if we've ever really talked about yonder rays, so this is exciting.

01:41.490 --> 01:45.600
I don't believe so, because that means nothing to me.

01:46.370 --> 01:48.160
We'll get into it, then.

01:49.090 --> 01:54.020
I'll leave you in suspense until you watch the episodes. But yeah.

01:55.750 --> 02:22.690
We haven't talked about it because we're generally kind of chill. Except for maybe me. But yeah, I'm not surprised. We haven't gotten to a show with yonder character yet. But yeah, that's pretty much the only thing I know about this show. I've seen that character a lot in memes and stuff. But beyond that, I don't really know much about this show. I know it's popular or popular is popular.

02:22.850 --> 02:25.080
Yeah. Have you heard of this at all?

02:27.610 --> 02:28.360
Research.

02:32.210 --> 02:36.846
It was 2011. Sorry, I didn't quite hear what Dugan said.

02:37.028 --> 02:44.960
Yeah, sorry. Probably because I didn't say it in any structured way. What year did this? Year? This what?

02:46.930 --> 02:50.290
A particular anime came out in 2011.

02:50.870 --> 02:51.742
Fantastic.

02:51.806 --> 02:53.298
Oh, God, that was ten years ago.

02:53.384 --> 02:58.120
Well considered thing. I'm struggling today just as it is.

02:58.650 --> 03:02.120
I get it. It's going to be an interesting episode then.

03:03.290 --> 03:10.570
My brain is clouded by the coziness of my situation, my slippies and my candle.

03:13.070 --> 03:19.002
I said it before, I don't know much about the show. I can't imagine that's going to vibe well with this show.

03:19.056 --> 03:20.060
Probably not.

03:22.510 --> 03:26.960
I'm going to match your energy. I'm going to turn the lights off. I'm going to close the shades once.

03:27.330 --> 03:32.320
No, you're going to fall asleep. They'll do it. I guarantee you all.

03:33.330 --> 03:34.830
Let them get cozy.

03:37.410 --> 03:46.790
I'm already cozy from the sun. I have one blue light on that will definitely not make me fall asleep.

03:48.490 --> 04:00.874
I watched the first episode of this a while back and then just didn't continue because that's how it goes sometimes. But the most popular thing about this show is that pink haired girl.

04:01.072 --> 04:03.946
Yeah, I know. Literally no other character besides her.

04:04.048 --> 04:07.820
Yeah, my mouth made a terrible noise. I'm very sorry.

04:10.030 --> 04:23.998
So I'm assuming the show is fantastic and has a wide fan base since we know clearly so much about it before even watching it. Yeah, it definitely isn't just a one note thing we'll see.

04:24.164 --> 04:26.990
I'm sure it's got layers.

04:30.530 --> 04:36.662
Where we're struggling for traction. I guess we'll just jump into the break.

04:36.796 --> 04:39.480
Yeah, we're watching the first three. Let's go.

04:57.870 --> 04:58.378
God.

04:58.464 --> 05:04.240
Back in my day, people chose their destinies. They didn't just read it off of their phone.

05:04.850 --> 05:11.040
I was thinking about that. I was like, God, look at these kids faces and the phones all fucking day.

05:12.050 --> 05:17.170
I'm just going to listen to what a phone tells me to do. Have you ever heard of a tree?

05:17.590 --> 05:22.260
Wake up, sheeple, touch some grass or whatever.

05:22.630 --> 05:37.606
Oh, my God. I won't say who, but I had a boss at one time. I was like, yes. Sometimes I like walking outside and bare feet and just running my feet through the dirt just to get connected with the earth. I was like, that's okay, I won't judge because you're my boss and you can fire me at any moment, but.

05:37.628 --> 05:42.198
Like, okay, know that beyond this, I would be judging you.

05:42.364 --> 05:48.138
You could just go out barefoot and be fine, but just to spend, like I dedicated five minutes a day, every day, to stand in a patch of.

05:48.144 --> 05:52.270
Dirt, dig my toes into the dirt, feel the worms.

05:55.810 --> 05:56.842
Sweet mud.

05:56.906 --> 05:58.990
That's mother earth's nectar.

06:03.650 --> 06:35.900
No, it doesn't. Let's go. Phones do, but not phones. So we open on a girl over a body in, like, a big church looking type place. It goes dark. Then it would appear that she gets got. She cries for help from someone named Yuki, then dies. And then we get the opening, and it's pretty rocking. It feels very much like middle school.

06:37.150 --> 06:42.586
It's got some middle school edgy who bosses. I didn't hate it.

06:42.688 --> 06:43.434
Yeah.

06:43.632 --> 06:45.840
Which does more about me than this show.

06:46.610 --> 06:48.762
It just reminded me of Death Note.

06:48.906 --> 06:50.622
Yeah, I can see that.

06:50.756 --> 06:57.394
This first episode, I was like, Death Note rip off. Cool. Changed, but not much.

06:57.512 --> 06:58.558
Similar vein.

06:58.654 --> 06:59.860
Similar. Yeah.

07:00.230 --> 07:07.560
So we see a kid sitting on his bed, wrapped up in a blanket. His phone vibrates, and then we cut to middle school.

07:08.650 --> 07:09.174
Oh, no.

07:09.212 --> 07:14.386
And what middle school? I just saw you're.

07:14.418 --> 07:15.000
Right.

07:16.090 --> 07:26.486
They're being dismissed for the day. And the teacher says to keep the unpleasantness in mind on their way home. This unpleasantness is a serial killer on the loose.

07:26.678 --> 07:27.862
Very casual.

07:28.006 --> 07:29.500
Yeah. Careful, kids.

07:30.190 --> 07:30.566
Yeah.

07:30.608 --> 07:36.490
Remember, your worksheet has problems. One through five. Watch out for the murderer and see you tomorrow.

07:36.650 --> 07:38.478
Wait a minute. One through five.

07:38.564 --> 07:49.746
Okay, yeah, but then it's like one A through F. I hate I wish someone would just murder me so I didn't have to do this.

07:49.848 --> 07:51.806
Hey, wait a minute.

07:51.998 --> 07:53.300
There's an idea.

07:54.970 --> 08:13.420
We see some boys who are looking for someone to play basketball with them. And one of them asks the main character, Yuki. And another boy says not to bother because he's just a creep who keeps a diary on his cell phone. He's like a weird phone.

08:14.430 --> 08:17.798
He's not even blogging like a cool mirror.

08:17.894 --> 08:49.350
He's not on tumblr. He's just writing down his feelings. And then we see the teacher ask a girl with pink hair gossai, this is the girl with some help in the library. And she's like, sure, Teach. So Yuki walks home. His inner monologue. He calls himself an observer. He's like, I don't do sports, and people just leave me alone. I keep this journal out of boredom.

08:50.170 --> 08:53.320
I'm bored, but I refuse to engage with anything.

08:53.850 --> 09:25.860
Yeah, fuck all the kids. He goes home. He goes into his bedroom, and he's like, I have friends. They're just imaginary. He sits on his bed and closes his eyes. And he's in that weird church place from before the opening. And there's this big, huge guy in the middle. He looks so dopey, but he's supposed to be like, impressive. And this is deus. He is the god of time, space something.

09:29.590 --> 09:31.682
He's fate. It's all there.

09:31.736 --> 09:32.578
It's all of it.

09:32.664 --> 09:35.378
But first and foremost, he's my friend.

09:35.464 --> 09:45.640
He's a friend. He's a pal. He says he's busy. And Yuki is like, what, are you going to start a war or something? And he's like, I don't know.

09:46.010 --> 09:47.320
Don't tell me.

09:48.090 --> 10:50.250
Don't threaten me with a good time, Yuki. He's still sitting on his bed, and there's this, like, little character that crawls up. And she makes fun of him and his diary. He talks about his diary being unorganized, but he's like, it doesn't matter. It's just for me. He's like, my phone and this weird church place is my whole world. And then he opens his eyes. And then Deus asks if he's lonely. And he says that he's not. And then Deus is like, well, what would you do if you could reinvent yourself? Tell you what, I'll give you the gift to see the future. And then he gets a text from his own phone, and it tells him stuff that's going to happen, but he thinks he's dreaming. We cut to a girl running into an alley. She's backed into a wall. She says she's not ready to die. And then she dies. She's going to say it out loud.

10:51.410 --> 10:55.262
I'm not ready to be a billionaire. Come on.

10:55.316 --> 10:56.320
It just works.

10:58.290 --> 11:17.734
Yuki looks at his phone reading stuff from the future about the girl getting murdered. There's answers to a math pop quiz. And he's like, I don't believe it. Whatever. And he gets up, and his thing is darts. He always has his darts on him.

11:17.772 --> 11:25.320
For some reason why I'm so bored, I have no interest except this one very niche interest.

11:26.970 --> 11:43.530
I feel like people creating series really are just like, we need the one unique thing to time all together. What's a metaphor for the rest of this show. And then just force it on the character, no matter how out of place it is. Because he's got, like, seven dartboards in his bedroom up on the wall. It's like, what?

11:43.680 --> 11:44.578
Come on, Kate.

11:44.614 --> 11:48.720
What are you that bad at darts, you can't hit one.

11:49.730 --> 11:53.040
They're all grew up together really tightly, just in case.

11:54.530 --> 12:08.360
But so on his phone, it said he would score a bullseye. And he did. And then he goes downstairs and the news is reporting on the serial killer. And he's like, it has to be a coincidence. There's no way my phone is telling me the future.

12:08.730 --> 12:14.360
There's no way I could have gotten a Deus ex machina from Deus ex machina by God.

12:16.250 --> 12:28.422
So on his walk to school, he runs into people he normally wouldn't, but his phone knew. Same thing with the quiz. He has the answers. Whatever. Long story short, his phone keeps predicting.

12:28.486 --> 12:29.100
Stuff.

12:31.070 --> 12:44.530
And Deus confirms it with him. And he's like, but you're fake. You're not real. You're a figment of my imagination. And Deus is like, nah, I'm a real god beyond reality and imagination.

12:45.030 --> 13:06.470
Imagine knowing someone for like, let's just say your coworker for like, five years. And then one day they're like, wait, you're not just a figment of my imagination. Can you imagine just that level of like, you didn't even register me as a different person? Wow. So insane.

13:09.710 --> 13:21.094
So he tells Yuki to beware his diary, because if his phone gets ruined, he'll die too. The pressure is on to keep this phone safe.

13:21.222 --> 13:22.326
High stakes.

13:22.438 --> 13:53.480
Yeah. So he's at school. His phone predicted that he would get beat up. So he went a different way. And he's like, starting to get excited about this. We get a quick shot of some people. It appears that they're investigating the murders. But then the character we see in this shot turns out she's not a cop. We find out more about her later. So back in school, someone raises their hand and says, the test isn't fair. I don't get it. And Yuki is like, getting cocky. Like, he's like dumb kids.

13:54.170 --> 13:59.180
He's also just got his phone out. Like the entire this teacher sucks. If he did.

14:01.630 --> 14:43.318
He looks up and gasai shoots him a glance. And he's like, that's weird. And she's like, messing with a tissue or a piece of paper or something. She's like, folding it up. After school, he's in the classroom reading his diary, and it says he's going to get killed. So that's not good. And then gothi comes in, and she seems to know what's going on. And she's like, your phone says you got a dead end. So he runs because he's like, oh, shit. She's the one that's going to kill me. And as he runs, the future on his phone changes. But she follows him everywhere he goes. She's already there. And he's like, but I'm the only one with disability, right?

14:43.484 --> 14:44.200
Right.

14:45.290 --> 14:49.578
He gets on an elevator, but what the fuck is wrong with me?

14:49.664 --> 14:52.090
Elevator. elevator.

14:52.670 --> 15:26.070
He gets on an elevator, but she is hot on his trail. And she shows that she has a phone that can predict the future too. But we find out that the people who have these future diaries, they're all written differently. So his entries are written as though he wrote them. So they're an outside observers kind of thing, where it's like, oh, yeah, this thing's going to happen, whatever. And then her diary, she calls it the diary of future love. So her diary tells her everything that's going to happen to yuki.

15:28.890 --> 15:29.830
Walker.

15:32.650 --> 16:42.640
In ten minute increments. So he's like, damn. She, before this, has been writing diary entries about me every ten minutes. And he reaches for his darts that he carries with him, and she tells him to stop. And then she gives him a smooch, and she's like, you won't hurt me. My diary told me so. And she says he has no reason to hurt her. And as they're going up in this elevator, it has windows, and she sees the serial killer outside, and she says he's a diary user, too. He is known as third. So that's when she explains the thing about her diary, keeping tabs on yuki. And she talks about how everyone with a future diary is in a survival game. It's a last man standing game. And third wants to eliminate yuki. So they end up on the roof, and he's like, well, there's nowhere to escape. Why are we here? And she's like, we can watch the sunset. But she says she has a plan and that he can use his dots. yay. They're useful for something.

16:44.450 --> 16:46.654
Such a specific scenario to be used.

16:46.692 --> 16:49.822
I always have my dots with me, just in case I see a board.

16:49.956 --> 16:50.750
Would you?

16:50.900 --> 16:54.122
What, you into street dots?

16:54.186 --> 16:57.510
Like me? Street dots.

16:57.690 --> 17:03.362
Me and jonesy are back in the dumpster behind the bar. We got a board out there.

17:03.496 --> 17:05.860
You should come join us sometime, doll.

17:06.550 --> 17:10.150
500 people can't hit that knot on a tree.

17:10.810 --> 17:12.950
Be warned, we play for keeps.

17:13.370 --> 17:14.514
We'll keep you, dad.

17:14.562 --> 17:16.200
That's why I got so many.

17:16.570 --> 17:17.702
Oh, god.

17:17.836 --> 17:19.720
Spontaneous dark matter.

17:21.470 --> 18:48.520
So third arrives on the roof, and he looks around for them. Yuki is watching him, like, in the reflection in his phone screen. We see, like, a quick flashback, like a few minutes before I've gothai explaining the thing about phones and users, like, being tied again. So if they destroy third's phone, he'll die, too. So Yuki hits the phone with the dart, and third kind of implodes, oof, he's dead. And gossai is like, oh, there wasn't even a little bit of blood. That's disappointing. Anyway, you want to get something to eat? Anyway, so she's chilling. Yuki is back with deus, asking him about the other users, and he tells him to calm down and that he's the first victor. So he's transported to a space with all of the other users. They're all like, shrouded in shadow. He can't see their faces, and they commend him for killing someone off. So, rule time. Deus explains that their diaries show the future up to 90 days. Someone like, raises their hand, is like, hey, my diary has changed. And deus is like, yeah, most well, this is weird. He he kind of implies that nothing is set in stone. He's like, if you guys do something that your diary doesn't say, it'll change.

18:49.610 --> 19:00.250
I want to underline this point, just making it clear that the show is like, yeah, the future you're going to impact. That's how the game works.

19:00.400 --> 19:01.002
Yeah.

19:01.136 --> 19:03.082
So just got to establish that here.

19:03.216 --> 19:44.566
Yeah. And then Yuki is like, well, my diary changed without me doing anything. And it's like, again, nothing is set in stone. So, yeah, they're all part of a survival game. And if one of them wants to kill the other, the words dead end is sent to their phone and someone asks how they're supposed to know who to kill. Deus is like, you guys can figure it out. there'll be hints, whatever. And then right now, Deus contradicts what he said before by saying that Yuki's death was in fact, set in stone. Fuck. Okay, you just said that they're all capable of changing their future. All right.

19:44.668 --> 19:46.470
Jeremy berry. Me, baby.

19:46.970 --> 19:52.602
He's fluid. He's a god. He doesn't have to explain himself. They rarely do.

19:52.656 --> 19:55.450
Puny earth minds wouldn't comprehend.

19:59.310 --> 20:12.240
But he feels like yuki feels kind of guilty because gasai is the one who helped him realize what he could do. So he's like, I can't do this. But yeah, whoever wins gets to be a god.

20:13.890 --> 20:14.638
Cool.

20:14.804 --> 21:05.966
Yeah. So dais is just like, figure out who your opponents are and kill them. Have fun. And as everyone is, like, fading away from this room, they're all like, talking to Yuki, essentially being like, watch your bat, kid, because we all want to murder you. So Yuki is like, I can't believe this. And gossai is like, it's going to be okay. Because of my diary and because of how much I love you, I'm going to protect you, tihi. Yeah. And then we get the credits, and there's a silly after credit scene of that girl from earlier that was like, making fun of Yuki and his diary, giving third his future diary. And he keeps trying to break the phone, but killing himself. But she controls time, I guess. So she keeps bringing back to life. It's just dumb and silly. Yeah, that's episode one.

21:06.068 --> 21:07.158
She's like a psychic.

21:07.194 --> 21:10.034
Not like that character. She creeped me out.

21:10.152 --> 21:18.066
No, I'm glad she's not really in the show beyond the after credit scene. Yeah, the second one isn't as weird.

21:18.098 --> 21:22.706
As the first one, but yeah, it was just weird.

21:22.898 --> 21:23.640
Yeah.

21:24.010 --> 21:28.242
This is just Duncan rompa, but with phones. It's phone can rampa.

21:28.386 --> 21:29.662
Phongrampa.

21:29.746 --> 21:41.226
It's weird. Start off episode two, as is tradition. Starts with hughie getting a bunch of texts from did you watch the subbed version? D?

21:41.328 --> 21:42.906
I watched them dubbed.

21:43.018 --> 21:46.666
Okay, so did I. I just wrote down the girl's name is uno.

21:46.778 --> 21:49.662
Yeah, gasai is her last name.

21:49.796 --> 21:50.302
Got you.

21:50.356 --> 21:51.550
And that's what I caught.

21:52.050 --> 21:58.370
Yeah, I wrote down both too. It was easy for me because it was Yuki uno. Like, Yuki una is a that show.

21:58.440 --> 21:59.380
Good point.

22:00.950 --> 22:23.350
Yeah. So it starts off Yuki, like, in his room on his bed, being like, God, I got, like, 40 messages from you. Like, why she messaged me so much? Because she's the stalker. She's your stalker. Like this, you know, her phone magically tells you how to stalk her or tells her how to stalk you. So we're establishing that that's the Yonderi dugan that's. What a yonderi?

22:24.170 --> 22:27.786
Well, it's a little bit more than that.

22:27.968 --> 22:35.706
I love this person so much, I'll kill everyone else that ever interacts with this person so I can be the only person they can ever love. Too sort of mentality.

22:35.818 --> 22:36.990
That's the one.

22:37.140 --> 22:39.630
But it's fun because it's animated.

22:46.450 --> 22:47.790
I love misery.

22:49.670 --> 22:51.650
Kathy bates. Good movie.

22:52.230 --> 22:54.530
She's my favorite yonderendore.

22:57.770 --> 24:33.358
Do the opening come back to Yuki recapping? Pretty much what happened last episode, in case you missed it, and are starting with episode two for some reason. Then he goes to class, and the teacher's out sick. And this is right when I wrote down, I bet the teacher was third. He was the serial killer. And then immediately the next scene, they're like, yeah, your teacher was the serial killer. I was like, okay, they know they can't hide it. It's the only dude with long red hair. So I'm just like I guess but took the wind out of my sails real quick after class, he goes to talk to you, and she says, Now I'm busy. I get gym class. Fuck off. It's like, okay, I thought you loved me. Real weird shift from the last all the 40 messages you sent me. So she goes off the gym class, and then he, Yuki, is left alone in the classroom, and some weird pastel goth lolita girl shows up and like, hey, yo, what's up? where's the faculty lounge? I got to talk about this missing teacher because, you know, he's the killer. I was like, oh, okay. I guess this is normal for school. uni locker room. Get changed. And we see her phone, like, vibrate. Basically being like, the future has changed. Yuki's future. And we come back to the classroom with Yuki and this girl, and she's like, oh, yeah, the teacher, he was third. He was the serial killer. I was trying to kill you. You first. Are these numbers important? Does he keep matter more because he's.

24:33.374 --> 24:38.070
First, or no, I think it's just a naming principle.

24:38.730 --> 24:48.434
Yeah, it seems like everyone's after first for some reason. I wasn't sure if it's like, he's the most likely to win. Because I was overthinking.

24:48.482 --> 25:02.570
Yeah, because they were like, oh, you're the first person to get a kill. You're, like, in the lead, so you're first. But then their numbers don't seem to correspond. Yeah, it seems like the numbers were it doesn't matter. What everyone else's rank because they're all tied.

25:02.650 --> 25:09.440
Yeah, it seems like the numbers were, like, assigned before even anybody killed each other. I don't know.

25:12.370 --> 25:21.380
She says, like, I was chasing after Third, who led me to you first, who I'm going to kill now, because that's the game. And then uni.

25:22.870 --> 25:26.394
Well, see, maybe it'd be easier if you called her Gasai.

25:26.542 --> 26:11.620
You know, I can't say multiple civil words. You are right now not her name. Characters call her stalker. Might be easy. She comes swinging in with the fire extinguisher, swinging at 9th, getting her away from her man back off. And Nine jumps out into the window, and she's like, oh, don't worry, I'll get you to eventually. And then jumps out the window. And as she jumps out the window, a bomb goes off in the school, covers Yuki and says, don't worry, I'll kill 9th before she gets you. I'll protect you, my beloved. And Yuki is kind of like, okay, cool. You're just that okay with murder, I guess. All right.

26:12.790 --> 26:18.738
Hey, Yuki, you murdered someone yesterday. You can chill your teacher yesterday.

26:18.834 --> 27:05.460
No, but I'm the protagonist. It's different. And while she's still protecting him, shielding them from the bomb blast, he's like, well, she's definitely a stalker and definitely unhinged. But she's also saved me once already, so, like, maybe I'll write this out. Maybe I see what happens. I'm not using her. I'm not manipulative. She's saving me. So our goals correspond. Kiss again after the bomb goes off. Meanwhile, outside, 9th is just in, like, the school courtyard with a megaphone basically being like, hey, guess what, idiots. I rigged your entire school with bombs. Like her. She's crazy. How did this happen? We were sister energy.

27:06.390 --> 27:08.434
Just very joker. Ask.

27:08.552 --> 27:10.690
Yeah, theatricality.

27:11.510 --> 27:19.686
Yeah, she's in, like, this pastel gothel lead outfit that we don't see her in after this episode. And I don't know, she's like, what.

27:19.708 --> 27:21.370
Do middle schoolers wear?

27:23.390 --> 28:56.214
Honestly, if she's like, I'm trying to blend in. She's crazy. If she just says, Fuck it, I want to wear whatever the hell I want when I bomb this middle school. Be like, okay, I respect you a little more for that. You got your own style going fine. But, yeah, she says she rigged the school with bombs, and she basically is separate and Yuki from the rest of her school between the two buildings of the school. So they're kind of on their own for the most part. And Yuki's diary keeps changing all the time, and because he keeps a record of everything he sees and gives them warnings about knife now that he's encountered her. So it's kind of giving a warning of what knife is doing at that moment, and where are the bombs she put? So they're able to avoid all the bombs, and as they keep avoiding some of them, they kind of get caught off guard by a few and barely avoid them. And he knows, like, hey, instead of focusing on where the bombs are, why don't you focus on what your reaction to the bomb is? That way, you know, it's like, ah, this bomb clipped me, or, like, burnt my hand. We can get further away from it. And that's when they realized Yuki's phone future diary is more like he never wrote about himself because he was the one observing it. So he just wrote about everything else. So it doesn't go into great detail about him. That's why uno's Phone is helpful, because it's just about Yuki. So combined, they have a bigger picture of what's going on with huuki, because he's a protagonist and he's a very special boy. For some fucking reason, he has to.

28:56.252 --> 29:04.060
Remain objective at all times. Personal diary feelings. Even before the game.

29:09.630 --> 30:17.070
In all the rubble, yuki laments and starts crying about his life. I forget why. He just starts crying for some fucking reason. Being like, I wanted to be normal. I just want to hang out with my godfriend. You're into the Hunger Games now. And Yuki tries to figure out why his future diaries telling him he's going to die at 204 exactly instead of now. He's like, if she just wanted to kill me now, she could just kill me now. So why does it say, I die in, like, 20 minutes? And we cut to outside of the school. We see a detective in kind of a police van figuring out what's going on with this Hostice situation. So the cops showed up outside and set a perimeter. And turns out the detective that's kind of lean stuff, he's part of the game as well. He's got a phone, and he's reading his phone. He tells his assistant, like, nah, we can't run in there because 9th, the woman who's setting up all the bombs, has, like, a dead man switch trigger to her heart. So if she dies, all the bombs go off at once, so we can't take her out right away. And we see he's looking at his phone when he finds that information. So it's like, how convenient.

30:17.150 --> 30:18.500
They're all here.

30:18.870 --> 30:31.106
They're all very specific future premonitions. And then sneaking around the school, we see Yuki sees one of his classmates, one of the guys he ran into the other day. He's like, oh, hi, it's Jeff.

30:31.218 --> 30:31.970
Hi, Jeff.

30:32.050 --> 31:20.886
He goes running out like a goddamn idiot. And we cut to, like, a little flashback of Night yelling at everyone on the megaphones, basically saying, like, hey, I'm only here for Yuki. You give me Yuki, and as a little girlfriend, I won't blow up the bombs and kill you all. So she turned all of the classmates against them. So when he goes up to say hi to his classmate, they capture them and separate Yuki in from each other. And they drag Yuki out in front of the courtyard. In front of 9th, Yunu is captured with all the other classmates in the school. And she's basically saying, like, these assholes betrayed Yuki. I can never forgive them for betraying my beloved. And Yuki gets dragged out in front of the school where 9th just starts monologuing at them, basically being like, here's why I'm going to kill you, kid. Instead of just killing him right away, she lament or talks, she has a.

31:20.908 --> 31:24.440
Flair for the dramatic, I respect it.

31:25.130 --> 32:02.900
That'S fair, but it's also not practical at all and says because they betrayed hughie, they all deserve to die. So while in the monologue with 9th, she says like, oh yeah, I turned the motion sensors back on for all the bombs in the school, so if anyone tries to escape, the motion sensor will trigger and blow them all up. So they're all trapped in the rooms and you know, here's that it says, cool, this is convenient to kill everyone that betrayed my beloved. So she starts running through the hallway, setting up all the bombs, subsequently killing, I'm going to roughly guess, half of her school, if not more.

32:04.710 --> 32:10.450
In the first episode, she's pretty creepy, but I feel like this is the moment where you're like, oh, she's unhinged.

32:10.530 --> 32:33.498
Okay, yeah. And this isn't like a weird parallel dimension with the people in the game of, like, all the damage is taken care of are like, ooh, a gas explosion whoops. Like they did with like, supernatural shows, like jusu kaisen. When the school gets destroyed, there, it's like, no, we see that the school stays destroyed and yeah, like, half of the kids are just dead now.

32:33.664 --> 32:35.214
And you did this.

32:35.332 --> 33:24.480
Yeah, you know, did this. She's running through the school, setting off all the bombs that she goes through. 9th is out in the courtyard, the bomb lady monologuing still and then Fourth shows up. He's the detective man. He's the one who's also got the future diary and says she isn't here for Yuki, but rather she's here for him. She was hunting after Fourth, she was like, hunting after Third because they were 9th and Fourth were both hunting after Third, who then led them to first. It's just all their paths cross convenient. And the detective Fourth says his feature diary is specific to the detective cases he's working on, so he finds out all the future information he needs about that through his phone.

33:24.850 --> 33:27.200
How convenient for your job.

33:28.290 --> 33:35.634
Oh, I am an ice cream vendor, but I got all this phone that tells me about murder cases where I.

33:35.672 --> 33:43.806
Just leave it off and go about my day. Oh, that's how you win the game, you just turn off your phone, don't get involved.

33:43.918 --> 33:46.230
Deus is like, what the fuck?

33:46.570 --> 33:48.040
Did you see that coming?

33:49.690 --> 34:52.838
So bomber lady 9th tells him, hey, Detective man, kill that boy next to you or I'll blow everyone up as a terrorists want to do. And Ford says like, no, I'm not going to kill him, and then points his gun at Yuki is i. Guess I'm going to kill you. It's. Like what? Okay. And he goes, don't worry, kid, your death is going to weigh on me greatly. It's like that's not comforting. You're still going to kill me? And Yuki says, basically says he wasn't cut out for this. He starts crying. He's like, well, hey, I'm not made for this game. At least I'm going out early, so I guess it works out and is, like, just willing to just die right here. And then we see yuno jumps out of a window above 9th and attacks her from above. And they start fighting for a bit and Fourth sees this as a chance to not kill Yuki and tries to shoot that 9th again and he tells Yuki to get on in there and help, you know, out. And so Yuki starts running towards 9th and they established earlier in the episode that there was a minefield between 9th and Yuki.

34:52.934 --> 34:58.540
When did she have the time to bury all of these in a day?

35:00.510 --> 35:52.206
So Yuki starts running through this minefield and there's mines everywhere, but with the help of yuno's phone, she can tell where the mines would be. So he dodges a mine and then the phone changes. He dodges mine and the phone changes. So they're able to help each other to get Yuki close enough to throw one of his murder darts at this lady and he hucks a dart at her. It's a dart, it's not a knife. I don't know why he couldn't have done it earlier, but okay, if he was really good at darts, he would have been able to throw it, like the 30ft that was between them before running into the minefield, but like, all right, whatever. So he throws the dart and we see her, like, raising her hand to block it and her phone's in her hand and if her phone gets destroyed, she'll die. And she goes, Wait a minute, and pulls the phone away and the dart gets her right in the eye to.

35:52.228 --> 35:54.782
See you hate to see it.

35:54.916 --> 35:55.710
Thank you.

35:55.860 --> 35:56.746
Gross.

35:56.938 --> 36:27.798
Another vibes all over again. And then once she's cornered, she got her eyes stabbed out, everyone circles around her being like, we got you now. And she's like, ha ha. Jokes on you, bitches. My very convenient deus ex machina phone is the escape diary, which tells me how to escape any situation. She releases a smokescreen and then rides off on a fucking motorcycle. That man villain, I guess, materialized in the smokescreen because it was not there and there's nothing around her.

36:27.884 --> 36:28.546
I love her.

36:28.588 --> 36:35.100
This is a mine and motorcycle field. I had it buried here just for this exact moment. Cool.

36:35.470 --> 36:40.702
And she gets away despite the police barricade we already establishes around the school.

36:40.836 --> 36:43.310
And guns and guns.

36:44.130 --> 36:50.190
But no, you don't understand. Her phone said she got away, so she did, right?

36:50.260 --> 36:55.714
Yeah, because the future isn't set in stone, but except for this time yeah.

36:55.912 --> 36:59.106
Except for when it's most convenient for the plot, right?

36:59.288 --> 37:17.240
So after that all happens, it's like, the next day, Yuki and you know, are in the police station and be like, hey, so your school's fucking exploded and everyone's dead. So you got a few days off of school. Which is nice because we can use this to hunt down the other people in this game now. And it's like, oh, okay.

37:17.770 --> 37:18.614
Sure.

37:18.812 --> 37:24.726
And Yuki was ready to die yesterday and hated being in this game. And now he's like, oh, cool. A detective mission.

37:24.758 --> 37:24.918
It's.

37:24.934 --> 38:12.554
Like what? It's been, 6 hours? So they form a future diary alliance between the three of them. So they're like, Third is dead. We know who 9th is. We got to figure out who everyone else is. And it ends with a shot of being happy and agreeing to work with all of them. Because on her phone it says her and Yuki will become one happy end. And we get the ending, and then we get the little snippet at the end with murmur, who's a god sidekick. And she basically comes out and says, like, hey, these little snippets at the end are basically to explain what happened in the show in case you didn't catch it. Which is good some of the time that would have been helpful. But now recapping it. I realized how fucking insane this is.

38:12.672 --> 38:13.626
And I was like, you know what?

38:13.648 --> 38:15.946
I don't need these segments, because fuck it. It doesn't matter.

38:16.048 --> 38:18.410
Yeah, I didn't watch the one for the third episode.

38:18.830 --> 38:35.854
Yeah, watch the ones for the second and third. Why? If you're going to put such vital information in your end credit things, make the first one just so vapid and unimportant and be like, I'm the weird character you'll never see, and then be like, oh, yes. I'm the encyclopedia.

38:35.902 --> 38:36.546
Hello.

38:36.728 --> 38:38.180
It didn't really matter.

38:38.630 --> 38:54.870
The second one explains stuff. The third one didn't matter. All the third one was throwaway. The second one is basically saying, like, how did all these people convene together this one spot? Isn't that convenient? It's because Fourth is a cop and 9th is a criminal, and they were hunting each other. bye.

38:57.850 --> 38:58.710
Cool thing.

38:58.780 --> 39:07.658
I could have pieced that together. You didn't like anyway, that's episode two. I got madder the more I talked about this show, I didn't hate it.

39:07.744 --> 39:42.390
But now I'm like, oh, yeah, this is garbage. Starting episode three, we see gasai and Yuki are at an amusement park. And Yuki is like, oh, I'm scared of everything. Death is all around. Then we flash back to C 9th in a war zone and being like, My backstory here's a snippet. But she wakes up and she's on the lamb. The whole city is looking for the child bomber.

39:43.130 --> 39:44.120
Good name.

39:45.770 --> 40:02.960
So we see another flashback to them talking in that last episode, and they're like, okay. So let's go over all the information we have in our little future Diary Alliance. We know 9th. That's all we have.

40:06.130 --> 40:09.360
We know 9th and Third is dead, and that's it.

40:10.850 --> 40:19.886
And there's a bunch more, I bet. So really off to not a great start real quick, but, like, dungeon rumpa.

40:19.918 --> 40:44.010
All these characters in this thing are so exaggerated and cartoonish that one of them is clearly a gang member or, like, a delinquent with a gigantic pompadour. So I feel like if I saw any of these silhouettes out in public, I would have recognized them immediately, because a good silhouette is good character design. But this also ruins any mystery show by having purpose.

40:44.670 --> 40:47.606
He knows how to make a good murder mystery.

40:47.798 --> 40:53.790
Yeah, the board is like, the silhouettes. Like, you haven't unlocked all these punch out characters.

40:55.090 --> 40:55.502
Yes.

40:55.556 --> 41:11.250
Take this seriously. This is a deadly game of cat and mouse. But yeah, so they're talking. They're like, okay, we're going to use YouTube as bait to maybe bring this bomber to an amusement park.

41:11.750 --> 41:12.980
Great idea.

41:16.010 --> 41:37.100
Don't worry. But while they're there, they're like, yeah, we don't think 9th, you stabbed her in the eye, like, 12 hours ago. I don't think she's going to be in fighting shape tomorrow, so we don't expect her to be there, but if she does, we'll figure it out.

41:39.630 --> 41:43.306
You've got your darts, she's got bombs.

41:43.498 --> 42:30.618
Yeah. Don't worry. You're in the jurisdiction of my police station, so you are fine. But while they're hanging out together, having a little date, yuki is like, hey, maybe we can discuss the whole stalking dynamic, but how do you bring it up to your literal stalker? So, yeah, they're going around, she like, brings them a soda, and it's two straws and one cup. Classic date. They're in love. But then he's like, all right, I'll try it, and just tries pulling from it. And she linked the straws together, so they're just sucking suction from each other's mouth. This was not cute at all.

42:30.704 --> 42:32.686
This was tough saying, but, I mean.

42:32.708 --> 42:34.334
It'S not supposed to be.

42:34.532 --> 42:41.210
Yeah, but even in her mind, if she just has some straws in there cute. We're bonding.

42:41.290 --> 42:56.230
Is she just spitting in the other yeah, maybe, because yeah, dugan's right. If they're both sucking the same, it's just going to suck all the air out, and then it's going to just suction onto their tongue. He's like, okay, what did that accomplish?

42:56.970 --> 43:44.820
But then we see, like, 9th, she's in nighttime this whole time, so I have no fucking clue what the timeline of these two separate A and B stories are. But she's like, she's trying to outrun the police. And my eye is stabbed out. I got to find somewhere to hide. My phone tells me there's police up, but, hey, you, we're police. heck, I'm the escape future diary yet I saw the note from my diary as I was getting caught by police and then led to a chase. So I'm very bad at this.

43:46.390 --> 44:06.220
Not defending it, but I think it said the cops were up around the corner and then they were directed back around the other way around the corner by another future diary user, which changed the future. But also her phone didn't update in real time like all the other yeah, never mind. I'm not defending those fucked us.

44:07.550 --> 44:40.306
So back in the amusement park, they go into a haunted house, both little scaredy babies. But the stalker child bomber, she's extra scared. So it's cute. But they leave and that scared energy sort of let their guards down. So the tension is gone and they're like, wow, when she acts normal, she acts normal.

44:40.498 --> 44:46.454
Shocking. She can also pretend to be a normal person.

44:46.652 --> 44:51.000
Whoa. Would be real convenient if she did this more, but no.

44:52.490 --> 44:53.820
Can I have the plot moving?

44:54.190 --> 45:03.850
So they go to the water park, part of this amusement park. And oh, no, she's got a two small bathing suit.

45:03.930 --> 45:06.890
Oh, sucks my teenies.

45:07.050 --> 45:15.060
Oh, no. Hope the wild waters of this lazy river knock her top off.

45:17.750 --> 45:26.820
It really is just like, hey, I think this baby's just a little weird. Look away. Cut back. It's gone. We did not move. What happens?

45:30.250 --> 45:50.640
She's topless and everyone's going to see her, so they get a lifeguard to go get her top. But oh, no. Someone bumps into her and forces them to hug while she's topless. Oh, man, what an awkward middle school.

45:52.690 --> 45:57.662
At least she doesn't do the thing we all hate the imperfect thing.

45:57.716 --> 45:58.590
Pervert.

45:58.930 --> 46:00.926
I thought she was going to try and fuck a teacher in the first place.

46:00.948 --> 46:05.390
That was bad. But if you show any sexual desire to me, you're a monster.

46:07.810 --> 46:09.694
She's got some standards.

46:09.822 --> 46:12.446
Yeah, there's going to be a line somewhere.

46:12.558 --> 46:13.220
Yeah.

46:15.830 --> 46:17.140
Not in the show.

46:17.910 --> 46:25.590
So, jacques, are top back on? He's like, oh, I'm a boy. embarrassed. boner alert. Nose.

46:27.290 --> 46:28.862
Surprisingly no nosebleed.

46:28.946 --> 47:13.558
Yeah, they can't contaminate the lazy river. So later on they're like, oh, do you want to go to the planetarium? I know you love space, my little space boy. And he's like, no, a line back space of my pairs, I guess. But yeah. So they go on a ferris wheel because he's wistful, distant, moody. And in the ferris wheel, he's finally like, okay, so a bunch of shit's going on. I can't be afraid to ask. Why are you into me? What's going on here?

47:13.644 --> 47:15.560
I have nothing to offer here.

47:16.250 --> 47:35.358
And she's like, oh, I guess you don't remember our fateful connection. So apparently earlier in middle school, I don't know how long it was, they just say like, middle school? But I thought they were in middle school. I don't know.

47:35.444 --> 47:38.080
He's wearing the same clothes. I think it was last week.

47:41.970 --> 48:09.820
This is just a wild happenstance. You know, someone who's like, hey, I bumped into you like five years ago and you don't remember it? It's fine. You wouldn't remember this. So they're staying after school, finishing up assignments immediately after yuki's parents got divorced. So he's all bummed. And she knows about this somehow. Is this before he stops talking to everyone else? I don't know.

48:12.430 --> 48:14.410
He tells her during the scene.

48:15.390 --> 48:40.210
Yeah, but she's already in love with him. So she's already up in his business, knows the exact thing to fix his divorce depression. But he's like, yeah, my parents were supposed to take me stargazing, but they got divorced instead. Weird. Column A, column B.

48:40.280 --> 48:45.460
She told me we were going to the planetarium, but they took me to the district attorney's office.

48:45.770 --> 48:48.630
Got you the old switcheroo.

48:49.850 --> 49:03.766
So she's like, well, I mean, I guess we could go start gazing. I mean, we could also get married. Marriage is a touchy topic for you right now, is it? No, wait.

49:03.868 --> 49:19.274
The thing is, in this moment, she he like he says, like, my parents got divorced. She's like, oh, maybe we could go to the plantarian to go start teasing. He's like, I don't know. I don't really think I'm in the movement. She's like, Why do you got to be so negative? He just said his parents guessing specifically.

49:19.322 --> 49:26.542
He's like, it won't be the same because you're not my family. You're not my parents. I wanted to see the stars of my parents.

49:26.686 --> 49:36.306
She's like, Why do you got to be a bummer? I'm having a rough fucking time. You talk to me. What? They're both actually this they're both acting.

49:36.338 --> 49:37.638
Stupid in this situation.

49:37.804 --> 49:38.278
Yeah.

49:38.364 --> 50:08.800
I mean, that still sucks. But she's like, oh, yeah, we kind of get married someday. And he has no recollection of this just absolutely insane interaction with somewhat of a stranger. They're not, like, close or anything, but he's like, oh, I guess when you said you were in love with me all those years ago, I guess that's when you were in love with me.

50:10.290 --> 50:12.880
I guess I never considered you ever again.

50:13.350 --> 51:27.266
Yeah, they all suck. So after they get off, they leave. They go home. Who cares? They go home, and he walks her to her house. And she's like, oh, it's raining out. Do you want to come inside? It's probably safe that we stay together. And yeah, he goes in. Then we see Fourth, the cop, and he's like, yeah, not going to have any attacks tonight. Don't worry about it. We don't need extra security. He apparently set up some security detail around her house. All right. He's like, yeah, that's enough. Don't worry about it. So 9th, who is still on the run, is confronted by a stranger who who is like, come with me if you want to live. I'm not the police, but can you trust me? So in ninth's house, they're like, hey, I live off the grid, so there's no power. Here's an apple.

51:27.458 --> 51:28.270
This is it's.

51:28.290 --> 51:28.860
House.

51:29.310 --> 51:39.366
Oh, sorry. It doesn't matter. In uno's house, she's like, here's an apple we grew ourselves. Also, we have no power, so it's pitch black. bye.

51:39.478 --> 51:42.042
Isn't this fun and cool and quirky? Aren't I cute?

51:42.186 --> 51:44.926
We live off the grid despite being in the center of the city.

51:45.108 --> 51:57.822
Yeah. So we see the man that takes 9th in sort of just hiding her from the police in her eyes. Well, in her eye.

51:57.886 --> 51:58.900
Excuse me.

52:01.990 --> 52:08.230
She's, like, recovering. He wears a literal paper bag over.

52:08.300 --> 52:13.282
His head, but he wasn't when he rescued her in the rain earlier.

52:13.426 --> 52:27.658
Yes. So she definitely saw his face at some point. Also, there's no eye holes or anything in this bag. It's just a bag on his head. So good. I love it.

52:27.664 --> 52:29.610
He's got the see through paper bag.

52:32.530 --> 52:37.038
Phone is taped on the inside of this bag so I can see what's going on around.

52:37.124 --> 52:39.386
Like, if they did that, I wouldn't.

52:39.418 --> 52:48.866
Be surprised if he's like, fucking his god name is Dance exhaustion. It's whatever the fuck he wants to happen.

52:49.048 --> 52:59.046
God, it really is. This shit just did that. And they're like, this gives us free rein to just do whatever we want. It's like no, it doesn't. Stop.

52:59.228 --> 54:28.754
Okay, so this man is like, Here, have some sleeping pills. They'll help you with the pain. Not painkillers, just sleeping pills. Sleep it off. Don't worry, don't question it. He just vaguely is cryptically, like, oh, maybe I control your fate. But 9th is like, looking at her phone and she's like, I don't see any changes, so I don't think I have to be skeptical of this guy. Cool. So back at uno's house, we see Yuki is looking at his phone and seeing all the updates and stuff. He's like, oh, I got to go to the bathroom. I'll just wander through the dark but use my phone to guide me through. So he also sees, like, the end of the last episode, happy End on his phone. Okay, sorry. We cut back and forth between these pieces. I'm trying to figure out how to express it the best way. Let me wrap up 9th, 1st, it doesn't matter. Get it out of the way. 9th takes these sleeping pills and oh, no, they make her sleepy. Who could have thunk it? Something weird happened there.

54:28.872 --> 54:29.940
She can't read.

54:31.430 --> 54:33.090
She lost her reading eye.

54:34.630 --> 55:01.886
Yeah, she's like, hallucinating. The reason her phone isn't updating is it's a piece of wood. What? And this man is like, all right, now that I got you sedated, you're going to answer all my questions. Who's number one? And pulls her eye out. Oh, boy, this was upsetting. Yeah, too much eye stuff.

55:01.988 --> 55:06.654
But it's what I want out of a horror anime, I want to say.

55:06.692 --> 55:29.590
Also, his bagged disguised form also changes to the big glass dome fish bulb like out silhouette we saw in the room before with everyone. So when she took these pills, it fucked her up and made her think a piece of wood as her phone, and that this man looked like a different man. These are very specific pills.

55:30.730 --> 55:42.714
I think that it's going to be some bullshit that this character can do with making people who hallucinate later on. I think that's what it's going to be. And I think that big head thing is like his real form or whatever.

55:42.832 --> 55:50.960
He's just mysterio from spiderman. Yeah, I think even with the big head, yeah, that's just who he is.

55:51.570 --> 55:58.314
Okay, so now we have to get to some we've talked about a lot of bullshit.

55:58.362 --> 56:01.646
Let's get. Here we go.

56:01.828 --> 57:02.820
So we see him, Yuki, looking at his phone as he's walking down the hallway. And he's like, huh? This says, like, I just go back to the room. What if I look in a side room and he opens a door? And we cut to see the powers of the universe have shifted because he did something that was not predicted by the future. You know how precious the premise at Deus ex Machina literally explains of, yeah, future is not written. It's not set. It's going to change all the time. Don't even worry about it. But this motherfucker opens a side bedroom door. He looks into the office space of this building, and Deus is like, this clever motherfucker. He really knows how to play this game, doesn't he? This fly fox always one step ahead.

57:03.670 --> 57:10.390
He did something truly unpredictable that not even God himself could play for. This boy took a piss.

57:13.450 --> 57:44.530
So I'm literally lightheaded right now. This broke me so hard. So he sees something so shocking that it just destroys the fabric of everything he's known and loved and, you know, comes up behind him and is like, oh, you could have just been a good boy and gone back to the other room. But you had to see what you shouldn't have seen. And oh, boy. This is where we're ending the episode.

57:49.350 --> 58:28.960
Here's the thing I've come to realize and come to accept. I think the reason my standard for stuff is so low is because I like trash, but also because I just like watching stuff. I just like to an hour. The most I pay attention to stuff is for this podcast when we actually have to take notes. So, like watching it, I was kind of like, yeah, all right. It's like this anime, all right? But having to discuss it and actually apply logic and thought to this made me so much better than when I was watching it. I can give a shit. And now I'm in a rage. Are we there yet?

58:30.530 --> 59:21.360
No. This is very bad. It's poorly written. It's very much developed in a what if we do the exact opposite of what you think is going to happen, and then that's narrative, baby. They just throw in, like, character choices are flip flopped. Our romantic lead is a child murderer stalker. But she's a cute girl that has feelings for a boy she's stalked. I can't tell if you're supposed to like her or hate her. Or what? This is not good. No, thank you. I don't want anyone to tell me what the plot twist that he sees in the very end is, because I don't care. I don't need to know. This.

59:24.850 --> 59:27.338
Is my real truth. This is my truth.

59:27.514 --> 59:27.806
Yeah.

59:27.828 --> 59:43.560
Let me truth I like this. I think this is fun. Like, I like it for the same reason that, like, Pretty Little liars and gossip Girl, it's fucking bullshit. It's over the top and stupid, and I think that's fun.

59:44.570 --> 59:46.706
Yeah, I can definitely see that appeal.

59:46.818 --> 59:47.190
Yeah.

59:47.260 --> 01:00:05.486
I go into it being like, oh, this show sucks. It makes no sense. And you're just there to have a fun time. Absolutely. There's enough wild shit going on that you can be like, all right, this is fun. That's not what I look for in shows, so I think that cool.

01:00:05.588 --> 01:00:09.440
So now we know just dugan doesn't like to have fun. Check.

01:00:10.610 --> 01:00:11.838
Well, we knew that it's been, like.

01:00:11.844 --> 01:01:00.506
150 episodes, but it's just like, I'm excited to see more of, like, the horror elements. And I mean, at the end of the third episode, I think I looked it up because I was like, what does he see in there? Because there is a cutaway where it's like, are we supposed to be able to tell what's in there? And it's bodies. It's three dead bodies. And he runs he runs home, locks the door behind him, and there's this shot of her peeking in through the mail slot, like, Good night. I love you. And it's like that moment where you're like, okay. Like, no, like, she's not cute. She's fucking crazy. And, like, that being the end of episode three is like, great, let's fucking watch this kid. Have to deal with this bitch for 23 more episodes.

01:01:00.698 --> 01:01:04.334
Yeah. She went from his bodyguard to his biggest enemy.

01:01:04.462 --> 01:01:09.460
Yeah, well, I mean, she still is, but he's afraid of her, which is fun.

01:01:11.110 --> 01:01:18.900
I'm speculating that the bodies were her family, and the reason they're off the grid is because no one's paid power there. Because she's killed everyone.

01:01:20.250 --> 01:01:21.878
All I need is him.

01:01:22.044 --> 01:01:26.214
Yeah. So she's kind of living in an abandoned hat. Like, it's all squalor and stuff.

01:01:26.332 --> 01:01:39.734
Yeah, but that's where I'm at with this show. Like I said, I had only seen the first episode before, and after watching the second two, it's just like, oh, okay. But yeah, this is bullshit. I love it. This is hot garbage.

01:01:39.782 --> 01:02:01.010
And I'm about see, I I would be on board with that. There's plenty of shows. I've I don't want to say I hate watched him, but it's more like I lament after I watched them. It's definitely like, for example, Yuki uni is a hero. I watched that so I could talk about it after I watched it to people and just rant like, yes. What is this?

01:02:01.080 --> 01:02:13.800
Yeah. Like, talking about Pretty Little liars with people who have watched it is the greatest experience because everyone knows it's the worst TV show we've all ever seen, but we're like, yes, I loved every second of it.

01:02:15.610 --> 01:02:49.922
Well, I want to say Resident Evil movies, people come after me for the saying that the Super Mario Brothers live action movie of like, it's garbage. We all know it's garbage and I love it. That's why I love this garbage. Or like kind of in the vibe of digimon. I'm mostly just like the designs of them. Story wise. It's fucking nonsense and I'll gladly not but it's like, yeah, this giant chicken that turns people to stone disguised himself as a captain of a yacht in the desert to trick all these small children on board to have a spa day, to turn them in the stone so he could then eat them.

01:02:50.056 --> 01:02:50.558
Incredible.

01:02:50.574 --> 01:02:54.740
That's an episode. And I'll gladly talk about how fucking insane that is.

01:02:55.210 --> 01:03:00.066
The consensus on the three of us in this show is that it is garbage.

01:03:00.258 --> 01:03:00.662
Yeah.

01:03:00.716 --> 01:03:05.730
Objectively garbage. But how you interpret that garbage is up for debate.

01:03:05.810 --> 01:03:06.246
Yeah.

01:03:06.348 --> 01:03:07.254
It's up to you.

01:03:07.292 --> 01:03:10.280
And that's what's so great about media.

01:03:11.450 --> 01:03:26.382
The difference is duga is going to go take a big swig of a whiskey bottle and take a long nap to trying to race this from his memory. Well, me and Dear are going to start a wine club and watching this every Tuesday night and go, this stocks, let's go. Get further into it.

01:03:26.516 --> 01:04:14.800
I think for me it has one of my least favorite things, which is trying to make a character unpredictable or just some sort of I'm trying to figure out the words for it of just like the whiplash of like, I'm normal, I'm crazy, no. I'm normal, I'm crazy. No. And just like without rhyme or reason, without anything, there's no indication. So in any particular moment, I just as like a viewer kind of feel like, betrayed by the writing of like, oh, no, she's just suddenly also helping this bomber. And you still want me to be sympathetic to this character? That's too big of a leap. You lost me.

01:04:16.050 --> 01:04:21.600
We don't need to keep discussing I don't think the show wants us to be sympathetic to you at all.

01:04:22.130 --> 01:04:25.562
That's my take. I don't know.

01:04:25.636 --> 01:04:29.074
It's not worth yeah, we don't need to keep going into it.

01:04:29.192 --> 01:04:37.860
But yeah, it's a no for me. Yeah, but this is just a particular thing I see in other shows that does make me bad.

01:04:38.570 --> 01:04:39.366
Yeah.

01:04:39.548 --> 01:04:48.870
That is why I didn't enjoy it for the cheesy. This is so bad. It's good quality. I was just like, no, it's just making me mad.

01:04:49.450 --> 01:06:01.822
No one here is saying it's good. Even if so bad, it's good. We're just all saying it's bad. I'll say real quick, I also kind of have that with the unreliable narrator trope of stuff, which kind of comes into play with this show of like, here's the set of rules, here's all the information we're telling you, try and figure out the mystery before it's revealed in the show. And at the very end, they're like, ha ha. All the information we told you was a lie. I bet you didn't figure that out, you idiot. It's like, no, how could I? You lied to me for 40 minutes. How could I have figured out the mystery? So stuff like that, I always get annoyed with when it's taking itself serious. I think the show is taking itself serious, but I think it's so objectively bad, you can't so I'm just like, yeah, of course they lie. Of course everything they told you was a lie. Why wouldn't it be? This sucks. I'm on board with that. But as opposed to something like Mr. Robot, where it's like, ha ha. I bet you didn't see that coming. It's like, no, because I trusted you as the storyteller. Why would I not see that coming? So I think me and you're in the same camp. I was like, hot garbage ELKIE wash. Hope you didn't like it. Listening for, like, 20 minutes.

01:06:01.876 --> 01:06:06.740
For me, varying levels of fun were had, but we are.

01:06:08.550 --> 01:06:10.180
We can all agree on that.

01:06:14.710 --> 01:06:18.660
What varying levels of enjoyment will we get next week?

01:06:21.130 --> 01:06:38.294
I didn't know what we were getting going into this show, so I didn't know how to plan for next week's episode. I was like, do we do something chill and wholesome? Do we do something fun old school? And I just said, fucking. I'm getting self indulgent. We're watching Trygon because I like, Trygon. So we're going to watch episodes one, two and five of trigon.

01:06:38.422 --> 01:06:39.194
Okay?

01:06:39.392 --> 01:06:46.186
It didn't immediately make me wince, so my reflexes are hopeful, but yeah, we'll.

01:06:46.218 --> 01:06:47.280
See how it goes.

01:06:47.970 --> 01:07:07.080
We'll see if there's a show you'd like to put up to my reflex test. I guess you can send those to our email arweebaria@gmail.com. Or you can reach out to us on Twitter or Instagram at rweebeveriat on both. You can find me on Twitter and Instagram at Mr. Patrick dugan. Sometimes.

01:07:07.610 --> 01:07:08.262
Sometimes.

01:07:08.396 --> 01:07:24.998
Okay, not much illegal. You can find me on Instagram at honey, period. D on Twitter at honey d eight and honey d art or on twitch at honeyunderscore d and honey is spelled H-U-N-N-I-E. You can find me on Twitter.

01:07:25.014 --> 01:07:36.830
At a BTS brendan it stands for Almost Better Than Silence, which is the video game podcast I also do. Don't bother with that Twitter account. It's mostly me retweeting D and D dice makers to try and get free dice that I cannot afford.

01:07:37.970 --> 01:07:52.154
Thank you to camille ruley for our artwork, and thank you to Louis zong for a theme song stories. You can find a little Louis music at Louisong bandcamp.com. Thank you, and we hope you'll join us next week as we learn to live with anime.

01:07:52.282 --> 01:08:26.700
I hope there's an evil twin later. Thank you.
