Mouth exclaiming into a microphone. And there's little sound triangles coming from the mouth. And we took the sound triangles and we expanded them ten inches all across the chest of the print. On the top triangle in a very clean font and 3d tactile ink is the word unmute and the triangle is metallic silver and underneath the second triangle says in a font that's called Rock. So it's kind of a cool, edgy font and 3d tactile ink is the word be heard.

On one of my favorite podcasts recently I heard about a great app called Tally. It's a wonderful app that's completely accessible. If you'd like to look it up in the app store, you'll find it under tally. The tagline for it is quick counter habit tracking scorekeeping and it is by agile tortoise. I'm going to do a short demo of it and this is on my iPhone and so you will find it a pretty handy app if you need to sort or organize things. If you're keeping stats, maybe your kid has a ball game and you're keeping stats on various things. If you're a crafter, a knitter or crocheter, or do some other kind of craft where you need to keep track of rows and patterns and repeats, it could be handy there. A really long time ago, I was a part of a group called Toastmasters in the US here, and a lot of times we would critique each other's speeches. And when we do that, one of the things that we would count are all the UHs and Ums. And so this could be a handy way to keep track of little speech patterns that you want to critique if you're a part of Toastmasters. So I went to the app store and downloaded tally and it is by agile Tortoise. And so it has a lot of really cool features. I'm going to explain the different settings and things that it offers for the basic version and then what it offers for the Pro version. And the Pro version is pretty inexpensive and so it is a good buy. So what we have here in the settings, it includes sounds and haptics which are on by default. So available with the Pro that is different from the really basic version is that you have unlimited tally sets. So basically you're just running a tally. You have a decrement or a decrease and an increment button, and you're able to quickly add or subtract from your tally. But you can name them and you can keep track of different tallies all at same time because they're items on your screen, as we'll see pretty soon. It also has an Apple Watch app, which I believe is only available to the Pro subscribers. It makes a little tone when you increase or decrease by one or by the increment or decrement that you choose, and other sounds are available in the Pro version. It also has many colors. Gray is the base color, but I was hoping for pink, so I guess I'll have to pay. It also has advanced shortcut support, so that is something a lot of people play with. I haven't really ventured too much into shortcuts and so, you know, but you're having them at your disposal if you pay for the pro version. All right, so have this screen open here.

04:08.960 --> 04:10.712
New tally set button.

04:10.888 --> 04:15.992
And that is what we've got at the top. Let's just make sure we're at the top left corner.

04:16.168 --> 04:17.528
New tally set button.

04:17.576 --> 04:21.457
Yep, that's definitely the top left corner. And we'll move to the right.

04:21.615 --> 04:23.293
Tally sets heading.

04:23.453 --> 04:26.285
Okay, so here are the tally sets that I have.

04:26.469 --> 04:31.713
Search. Search field. After I get past the search field, active button expanded.

04:32.053 --> 04:37.549
Okay, so this is expanded to show that active tallies that I have selected.

04:37.661 --> 04:39.901
Tallies decrement button.

04:39.957 --> 04:46.405
Okay, so I double tapped on tallies, and I first have this decrement or decrease button.

04:46.589 --> 04:47.673
Item one.

04:47.994 --> 04:55.174
Okay, item one is the name of the telly, zero. And that is the count, which is zero.

04:55.474 --> 04:56.698
Increment button.

04:56.786 --> 04:59.614
Okay, so if I double tap on increment.

04:59.954 --> 05:04.642
Increment now three somehow.

05:04.698 --> 05:13.974
Okay, so I think what happened is I changed the increment by which I'm going to increase to three instead of one at a time.

05:14.404 --> 05:19.772
Item one. Three. Okay, so if I increment button.

05:19.868 --> 05:23.220
Go one more tap, double tap of the increment button.

05:23.372 --> 05:24.260
Increment.

05:24.452 --> 05:58.866
Now I should have six. Six. And the reason I'm jumping by three is that I set it up so that every double tap of the increment button would go up by three. And it would play a little tone here, but I have do not disturb on so that I don't get interrupted by notifications. And so it would just play a little ding. And there's a little higher sound for the increment and a little lower sound for the decrement. So if I move to my right.

05:59.010 --> 06:02.466
Increment button. Decrement button thing two.

06:02.610 --> 06:10.306
Okay, here's my thing two. Okay, so thing two, six. Okay is six.

06:10.450 --> 06:15.978
Increment button. Let's go ahead and increment, see what that seven.

06:16.066 --> 06:22.498
There's seven. Okay, so we are going up by one increment button.

06:22.626 --> 06:34.194
Increment eight. Okay, so let's suppose we want increment settings. Decrement button. Decrement thing two. Okay, seven.

06:34.494 --> 06:42.606
So there's a small tone that is played that is barely audible here. So then if we go to the.

06:42.630 --> 06:45.654
Right again, increment settings button.

06:45.734 --> 06:56.334
Here's the settings button, which is only available to us when we have the tally screen open where the active tallies reside. So if I double tap here, close.

06:56.454 --> 07:07.370
Button settings heading Tally Pro heading get Tally Pro unlimited tally sets themes icons learn more button what's new?

07:07.522 --> 07:10.610
Okay, so if I learn more, I bet I'll find out.

07:10.642 --> 07:29.284
Learn more button close button how much I will pay image Tally Pro unlimited tally sets Apple Watch app themes and icons sound sets advanced shortcut support selected Tally Pro annual $4.99 year $0.41 month.

07:29.364 --> 07:32.316
Button that's pretty cheap for sure.

07:32.420 --> 07:38.236
Very inexpensive tally Pro lifetime $19.99 button.

07:38.420 --> 07:50.092
There'S kind of a trend now we can get lifetime memberships to these things, which is kind of cool. GoPro button and there's my GoPro button. So I think I will dismiss this for now.

07:50.228 --> 07:57.254
Close button close button okay, we're going to close all that tally sets back.

07:57.294 --> 07:59.798
Button and we're going to go back here.

07:59.966 --> 08:03.750
Tallies selected tallies okay, let's see what.

08:03.782 --> 08:05.094
Is on this screen.

08:05.254 --> 08:08.910
Archived button expanded there is an archived.

08:09.062 --> 10:53.224
Section in case you have so many tallies that you have to archive them, which is an amazing thought, but you can definitely keep track of those and archive them. So when you're on the tally's screen, back on the tally screen there is a more button so you can create a new tally set. You can edit the set, you can reset it. There are other things which I haven't explored like start activity display on lock screen. So that's kind of cool that you can add, have this active on your lock screen, copy the link and identifier, archive and delete. On the edit tally set screen there's a new tally button. Select the icon if you want to have a visual icon for it. You can edit the name. So instead of these things being called tallies, you can change it to trackers or anything you like. And I think that's just available in the pro option, you can select, of course, any color that you want when you're on the options screen. For these tallies, it's going to show the timestamp that you created the tally, which is kind of great. And then you have options to rename it. You can edit the number in the, in the tally box and so that's you can hit done in the bottom right corner. When you're done editing all those settings for a specific tally, you can manually put a number in the edit box. In terms of editing it, you can increase or decrease by a certain amount, as I did, by threes in that first tally. And you can also choose the direction, which is of course going up with adding and going down with subtracting. When you're on the specific tally, you can also change things like the sounds and there is also a flash option. So those are some of the things that you can do with tally. And I think it's going to be a really useful app for people who just want a really, really quick way. Maybe they're in a business or in a volunteer thing where they're accounting things or they're keeping track of different items and they have to keep track of a few things on the same screen, which is great because you can have more than one tally open at a time. So investigate tally. It's this quick counting habit tracking scorekeeping app by agile tortoise. And let's see how many things we can keep track of. Thanks for listening.

Hey all, today I want to talk to you about text replacement. What is text replacement? Do you know when you type the same thing over and over and over again? Your phone number, your address, all of those things, typing it over and over and over again. Really annoying, right? So here is a super easy way to do that much faster. This is called text replacement, and what you do is go to settings, general keyboard text replacement. Once there, you're going to see a list of all of your saved snippets, which is your long form things that you've written out with a short text snippet which will represent the long thing. So for example, let's say you want to type on my way. If you were to just do nw spacebar, that will type out on my way, and that's actually already in there. You don't have to do anything at all. You could go anywhere where you can put text and you can type on w spacebar and it will type out on my way that's already in there and you can do that anywhere the text is acceptable. If you want to create your own, what you would do from this screen is go to the top right corner and you can hit the plus or add button. Then you'll be presented with a space to type out a sentence, so, or a phrase or whatever it is that you would like to put in there. So let's say, for example, you want to type out your phone number. So that would be 123-456-7890 then under that there's going to be another space where you can put whatever letters or combination of letters and numbers you would like to put there. And then any time you want to type out your phone number, you just put the small snippet. Let's say you put m number, sign for my phone number, and then you save that anywhere you go now where text is accepted, anywhere your keyboard pops up, you can type in that snippet spacebar and then it will type out the whole entire thing. You can make a whole library of tons of stuff. There's no limit to what you can do. It's really cool and it saves you a ton of time so that in the future you're not typing those same things over and over and over again. So the only bad thing that I would say about this is that there is no break or you can't hit the return. You have multiple lines. You only get one line at a time. So what you would have to do, if you want to do something like an address, is do two lines. So the first line would be your street number. One, two, three and Main street. And then the save that. And then the second line would have to be city state zip code, and then you would have to save that. So that's a little bit more tedious. If you need something that's more than one line, but there is a way to do it and that's how you would do it. So in any case, this is called text replacement. Go mess around with it, give it a try and see how it goes for you, and we'll see you next time.

At unmute, we kind of pride ourselves in sounding pretty good and providing some knowledge and education you can use. One of the tools that a lot of us use is the Vocaster, which is an audio interface you connect via USB. The Vocaster is made by a company called Focusrite, and there's an interesting history when it comes to focusrite and accessibility. Needless to say though, it's resulted in a accessible audio interface that can be controlled via software and physical buttons. The Vocaster, two provides you two XLR inputs that you can use to connect you and a guest. If you don't have guests in person, I still recommend the Vocaster two at the price point of just under $100. This provides you a physical device. You plug your XLR microphones into, and then that analog signal from your XLR microphone is taken and sent into your computer, whether that be into a tool like Reaper or zoom or another audio software. Also, you can take audio from your computer and send that out of the Vocaster into your headphones so you can hear yourself and how you sound to others while listening to your screen reader or other people on Zoom. It's a pretty nice little device, and I do want to give you one caveat. Third party tools are often needed if you're using the Vocaster with Mac OS and voiceover, because Apple's core audio sometimes likes to send the voiceover signal back over the microphone, and I don't actually know any other way but to use a tool like loopback. Grab channel five out of the Vocaster after adding it as a source device, and then sending channel five into channels one two and picking a virtual mic for, say, from your audio choices in Zoom. This does give you the flexibility of routing other applications to different channels and sending those channels into to a virtual device that you can use to connect applications like Zoom and edge and other tools. If you're looking for an easy to use device that gives you physical buttons, provides the ability to automatically set your gain and bring your phone in and route audio in creative ways. Check out the focusrite vocaster two and stay tuned to unmute.
